5 fun summer outdoor activities in St.Anton am Arlberg
Renowned for its guarantee of snow, St.Anton am Arlberg is one of the worlds best ski resorts and quite rightly so!
However, when the snow has disappeared and so too the masses of tourists, the buzzing ski resort turns into a quiet mountain village with endless opportunities to go and explore the surrounding mountains, valleys, lakes and of course rivers!
One of the beauties of St.Anton is that you can arrive by train and as you leave the station you are in the heart of the Austrian Alps. If you are staying in St.Anton then you can make use of the Tourist Card which also includes the free use of the buses throughout the valley. If you did arrive by car, just leave it parked up as the adventures are limitless when combined with our public transport.
So if you are keen for some fresh mountain air, here are our 5 Fun Outdoor Activities that you can do in St.Anton am Arlberg…
Kayaking on Lake Verwall
Our Lake Sessions are a great way to be outside in stunning Alpine mountain surroundings having fun, being active and doing something different. Surrounded by mountains, with distance views of the ski resort and a beautiful mountain stream entering, Lake Verwall is well worth spending time at. Closed off to the public we have the only permission to be on the lake! St.Anton has made the lake a very nice place to spend the day, with bbq areas, swings, benches and by spending time kayaking on the lake it gives you a very unique view of the surrounding scenery. No matter if you are trying to cool off on a hot Summers day or wanting to spend time outside on a rainy day you will certainly have fun kayaking on this beautiful lake.
Hiking
Whether you are hiking out directly from your accommodation or taking the ski lift, there are so many options for hiking from St.Anton. The views are absolutely stunning looking over the Lechtaler Alpen, Verwall Group or out along the Stanzer Valley. There are trails for everybody, through the forests, following the contour lines to arrive at a secluded lake. SummerSt.Anton is really a hikers paradise. Away from the over-walked popular routes further down the valley, you can find some peace and tranquility just close bye! We know some very experienced hiking guides who have a wealth of knowledge about the local area, customs and culture that can make even a rainy day a fun day out!
Running
Running is becoming the trend sport in the Alps and St.Anton has some great trails. Whether you are looking for some endurance routes over the passes into neighbouring valleys, a short route through the forests or by the side of the Rosanna River you will be surprised at the quality the running trails here have to offer. One of our core partners, Piltriquitron Lodging host running groups from all over Europe and Connie is also going to be offering guiding and coaching for runners this coming summer.
E-biking
This has become huge over the past few years in the Alps and especially here in St.Anton am Arlberg. In-fact I would say that 95% of bikes around the village are of the e-variety! As any skier who has come here will tell you that the terrain is steep and so with an e-bike you can access areas that you could not get to in one day on a “normal” bike! Up into the back of the Verwall Valley, following the Rosanna River you go past the Konstanzer Hut and you arrive in a world that seems far away. It feels like being somewhere in the Himalayas, pastures, mountains surrounding you, the noise of the water crashing over rocks in the steep river is something to behold. There are great trails and routes throughout the valley with charging zones along the way to keep the battery topped up and there are plenty of alpine huts and restaurants along the way to keep you energised!!
Klettersteig / Via Ferrata
A Kletterstieg is predominantly a climbing route which employ steel cables and ladders that are fixed to the rock in which the climber uses to follow the route. The Arlberg Via Ferrata is one of the 5 prettiest but also difficult tours in the Alps. The route takes you along exposed ridges, narrow ledges, vertical rock faces and should only be done by experienced walkers/climbers that have spent time on other via ferrata’s around the Alps. Safety equipment is a must, and if you have a head for heights the rewards are the stunning views out over the Allgaeu Alps in Germany, Oetztal and the Silvretta region that borders Switzerland. If you are unsure about this tour, then hire a Mountain Guide. There are plenty in the village and we can also point you in the right direction!
So these are our 5 Fun Outdoor Activities that you can do in St.Anton am Arlberg.
Of course there are a lot more outdoor activities to do and we hope to add these throughout the summer. In the meantime we hope this gives you a little inspiration for some Small Adventures with Great Moments in what we regard as the best season to visit one of the most stunning regions in the Alps!
