Instructors / Team

The instructor team at Kayak School Arlberg is second to none!  We have spent many of seasons working on the Apurimac River near Cusco and leading expeditions in Peru including the Acobamba Abyss (one of the hardest expeditions on the South American Continent) plus some first descents along the way.  We are very familiar with the Cotahuasi Canyon and combined with our fluent Spanish you can be rest assured you will be in the most capable of hands!

All of our instructors and trip leaders have wilderness first aid and vast experience in remote and wilderness locations.

Accommodation and Food

In Arequipa we will be staying at a an old Colonial style Guest House.  Situated just 10 minutes walk from the Plaza D’Armas it is nice and quiet and the roof top gives us fantastic views overlooking the city and the surrounding mountains, it is also where we take breakfast!

In the village of Cotahuasi we will stay in a simple Guest House just a short ride from the hot springs!

In the Cotahuasi Canyon we will be camping in Inca Ruins and Terraces!

In Arequipa there are restaurants offering: Italian, Pizza, Turkish, Peruvian Ceviche and even Alpaca Steaks!

On the river we will be cooking in our groups and with the help of your guides / instructors evening meals will be something to look forward to, not only to refuel our bodies but a taste that will be of Peru!

Experience Required

The Cotahuasi Canyon is committing and very remote.

A good standard of both paddle and general fitness is a must!  You should be confident at running continuous class IV white-water with laden kayaks.  We will be generally kayaking for 6 hours a day.

Group Composition

The maximum number of clients for the trip will be 6.

We will have a ratio of no more than 3 clients:1 kayak instructor / guide
